I talk to a lot of companies, and lately they're all telling me some version of the same story: AI is raising the bar on what customers expect from an application, right as the systems behind it get more complex and brittle. The pressure is universal. What's different is where each company is starting from. Some are carrying decades of infrastructure and can't rebuild before they compete in AI. They have to build forward from what they've got, and that's the part of my work I care about most: meeting people where they actually are.
The highlight reel#
I'm deeply grateful and in awe of what this team pulled off in just a year. We deepened the leadership bench: Preeti Somal, our VP of Engineering, moved up to SVP of Engineering. Tim Hughes, previously our VP of Sales, also became SVP of his org. Kate Caufield, who's led our People team since almost the beginning, stepped into the SVP of People seat as well. And, lastly, Hien Phan just joined us as our first VP of Product Marketing. Now, we're at 570 employees and counting, across four continents, and gearing up for our largest offsite to date in just a couple weeks, and I could not be more excited to get the whole team in one place.
On the growth side, the timeline from Series C to Series E has been a bit of a whirlwind (in the best way possible).
- Annualized revenue run-rate: Grew 200% year over year
- Net dollar retention: Held above 200% every single month this fiscal year
- Monthly Actions processed: 1.9 trillion in August alone (up 368% year over year)
- Paying customers and open source installs: 4,300 paying customers; 43,141,638 open source installs (up 134% since the start of the year)
- Headcount: Reached 570 employees (up 100% year over year)
- Users: 450,000 developers building on open source and 4,000 orgs running on Temporal Cloud
I'm proud of these numbers; they show what our platform is made of: tenacity and the reliability that's born from it. And it's the reason our business doesn't live and die with the current AI buzz.
Beyond this, our customers trust us. Snap moves 414 million Stories a day on Temporal. JPMorgan Chase runs us in regulated production. OpenAI grew 60-fold this year and credits Temporal as the infrastructure helping support this scale. Hear that story from Venkat Venkataramani himself.
We also became Crystal Palace's front-of-shirt partner, extending to Palace Women. It's less of a football story and more of a continued commitment to what we care about: reliability and the people who depend on it, whether that's fans or engineers. And with Palace Women, we're chipping away at the barriers we see in both spaces: opportunities being out of reach for women.
We also held our fifth Replay this year, held at Moscone Center, and I had so much fun on stage. I sat down with Venkat to discuss what it takes to keep an agent reliable at OpenAI's scale, launched amazing new features, and then we brought out a live robot arm and let the crowd make it grant their wishes.
Leading the agentic wave#
Durable execution is now the default requirement for shipping an agent into production. Watching competitors and hyperscalers converge on the same primitives is confirmation that we saw this coming early.
Agents are beyond a model answering a question. They're touching the actual plumbing of a business: calling tools, hitting payment systems, kicking off other agents, taking dozens of steps a person never checks, and every step is a new place to fail. So shipping fast and shipping reliably, on infrastructure wired into your business, is the bar we built Temporal to clear.
Two integrations carried a lot of that shift this year. Our OpenAI Agents SDK integration reached general availability in March, after a summer in public preview. Then we shipped an integration with Vercel's AI SDK, giving TypeScript developers the same durability guarantees.
Looking ahead#
Durable execution started as a way to make backend systems and microservices more reliable. Today, it's become the reliability layer underneath the entire agentic AI economy, and that's the frame I'm building toward next: deeper enterprise investment, continued global build-out, another (incredibly fun) Replay, and a lot of platform work I'm sincerely excited about.
I'm thrilled for the journey ahead.
