We’re excited to announce a new integration between Temporal Cloud and Datadog, designed to transform how developers monitor and optimize their Temporal Workflows.
This integration delivers out-of-the-box metrics dashboards, simplified setup, and cost-saving opportunities.
Unlock observability with minimal effort#
With this integration, joint customers can now access a pre-built Temporal Cloud metrics dashboard directly within Datadog. This dashboard provides insights into system health, performance, and Workflow efficiency — all with minimal setup. By leveraging Datadog, teams can monitor key Temporal Cloud metrics such as service latency, replication lag, Workflow success rates, and more without needing to build custom visualizations from scratch.
Simplified metrics integration#
Setting up the integration is simple. Just create a Service Account in Temporal Cloud with the “Metrics Read-Only” role, generate an API key, and add it to the Datadog integration tile. Optionally, you can specify a comma-separated list of namespaces to scope your metrics. Once configured, Datadog automatically fetches metrics and populates the dashboards.
Cost-effective monitoring#
An additional benefit of this integration is the potential to lower your Datadog costs. Unlike custom metrics ingestion, which incurs additional charges in Datadog, the Temporal Cloud metrics provided through this integration are classified as standard metrics. This means you can achieve comprehensive observability without worrying about escalating costs.

The Temporal Cloud–Datadog integration offers:
- Out-of-the-box dashboards: Pre-configured dashboards for monitoring system health and Workflow efficiency, including dedicated views for Activity/Workflow rates and Task polling.
- Granular insights: Metrics tagged with attributes like Namespace, operation type, Task type, Task Queue name, and Workflow type for detailed analysis.
- Expanded metrics: Over 30 metrics including Signals like approximate Task Queue backlog, open Workflow counts, Workflow completion stats, action throttling, and poller rates.
